Help our team to help raise money for cancer research!
On Saturday, July 11, four thousand people will help cure cancer.
They’ll walk or ride, volunteer or cheer, in the Norris Cotton Cancer Center’s 28th annual Prouty Bike Ride and Challenge Walk, raising funds to support world-class research and patient care. In the 27 years of this event, the Prouty has raised more than $8.35 million to support the Center’s important work. This year’s goal: $2.25 million.
The NCCC is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in northern New England. “In that leadership role,” says Dr. Mark Israel, the Center’s director, “one of our goals is to improve our ability to translate our cutting-edge laboratory and clinical research into treatments as quickly as possible.”
Though the NCCC receives over $60 million annually in federal research dollars, that money is spoken for the minute it comes in the door. Investigators with innovative ideas often need “seed money” to help them explore an idea. Unrestricted donations through the Prouty provide entrepreneurial researchers grants as little as $50,000 to get started. “Support for young investigators is critical to our mission,” says Dr. Israel. “The more we raise, the more we can achieve.”
The Prouty and NCCC are critically important to all of us on the M2S team. They’re important to us in our role as a leader in oncology services, and to all of our team partners, in our commitment to cancer research. Likewise, we value our partnership with NCCC and its commitment to the development of world-class oncology treatment and research. Clearly the good work of the NCCC affects all of us, and we all appreciate your support.
